In my HP Compaq 8710w this disk has worked without ever giving any trouble in several Linux distributions over several years. I saw you marked this as known to give problems, and I can assure you that has not once been the case for me, and I have used it with Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Arch and Manjaro.
